Should the sky really look like that?

I went shopping with my Mom for Halloween candy and when we walked out of the mall, the sky was an eery red! Of course all the little kiddies at the mall could have cared less, but me and my Mom stood outside watching the sky. She was getting slightly freaked out, but I explained that it must have been the effects of the solar flare thingy. At least I think that's why the night sky is the freakish red.

It was the Northern lights... you could see them here, too; they kept shifting from red to green and back. We could see them because of the solar flare, yeah. :)
